Watches have long been a symbol of status, as well as of fashion, for both men and women. Besides their ability to reflect the personality of their wearers, though, watches have a more important purpose, and that is to enhance the quality of life by helping the wearers organize and control their life rhythm successfully. Having said that, here are high-end timepieces that are not only about form, but most importantly about function.
Baume & Mercier 10004
This watch from Baume & Mercier is a beauty designed and constructed with great attention to detail. The case is only 42 millimeters thick, but it’s enough to give this watch a substantial look and feel. It’s matched with a brown leather calfskin strap with white stitching. Complementing the two is the brown dial that features Arabic numeral hour markers, Feulle-style hands, three sub-dials, and a date display window between the 4th- and 5th-hour markers. The watch also features a tachymeter scale on the outer rim and a telemeter scale on the inner rim. Overall, this is a beautiful watch that represents classic elegance.
TAG Heuer WAV5113.FC6231
The TAG Heuer Grand Carrera watch is all about serious business. It’s a great representation of form and function with its stainless steel case, stationary bezel, and brown leather strap with crocodile pattern. It features a black dial with silver-toned index hour markers and hands, as well as a date display window by the 12 o’clock position and a rotating GMT sub-dial with screw detail. The dial is also adorned with minute trackers along the outer rim. All these are shielded by a scratch-resistant sapphire window. Equipped with Swiss-automatic movement, this watch is powered by the movement of the wearer and is water resistant up to 330 feet.
Oris 01 774 7661 7481-Set
The Oris watch brand is the official watch partner of the Audi Sports teams, and this particular model was designed to celebrate that partnership. This explains the racecar-inspired look of the watch. Constructed with a multi-piece titanium case and black leather strap with titanium folding clasp, this timepiece is for men who love adventure. It features a silver dial with white Arabic numeral hour markers and hands, as well as one sub-dial for minutes and another one for hours, which has a date display window inset. At the inner wall of the watch is a tachymeter scale, and on its bezel is a count-up 0-60 scale. Built for precision, this watch tells time accurately and is definitely designed to last for a long time.
Frederique Constant FC718NWM4H6
This is one of those watches that will make you say “Whoah!” the first time you see it. There seems to be so much going on in the dial, but you can rest assured that each detail isn’t there for nothing. The watch comes with a blue leather strap and stainless steel case construction adorned with an antique-style crown. What makes this timepiece unique, though, is the dark blue dial that features a world map and world clock. Indicating the hours are large white dot markers with minute markers to accompany them. Also present on the dial is a sunray sub-dial by the 6 o’clock position, as well as Dauphin-style watch hands. Overall, this is just an outstanding-looking watch by Frederique Constant that is truly a representation of elegance and purpose brought together.
Fortis 677.20.31 L.01 B-47
It’s not every day that you see a watch with a jump-hour mechanic like this piece of beauty from Fortis. It features a stainless steel case with black leather band, plus a unique black dial that represents a solar system. The hour markers are represented by dots that symbolize small planets. This is matched with five larger circles with one at the 3 o’clock position being the date display window. Adding details to the dial are four orbits that complete the solar system look of the watch. These elements are then shielded by a protective anti-reflective sapphire window. Fortis has a long history in space, so it’s not a surprise that they have come up with this very unique-looking timepiece.
Ball CM3090C-L1J-BK
Ball is known for creating some of the most advanced and innovative timepieces in the world, and this model is not an exemption. It features a stainless steel construction with a calfskin leather strap with orange stitching. And just like most Ball watches, this one highlights a black dial with a number of complications, which includes three sub-dials, white index hour markers, minute trackers, and a day and date display window by the 3 o’clock position. Meanwhile, on the bezel, you’ll find a telemeter that’s designed for both pro and amateur storm chasers. This watch features 15 micro gas tubes on the hour, minute, second, and dial hands for nighttime capability.
Omega 21230445001001
This watch from Omega will surely get you noticed with its stainless steel construction and unique shape and design. It’s quite a big watch, but it’s not bulky at all and is actually very comfortable to wear. It’s quite heavy, too, which indicates that it’s indeed a solid, durable, and high-quality timepiece. It features a black bezel with a count-up 0-60 scale. It also comes with a black dial that features dot hour markers from 1 to 11, and a dual baton marker for the 12 o’clock position. In addition to this are three sub-dials for the chronograph function, plus a date display window positioned inset the sub-dial on the 6 o’clock position. If you’re ever going to buy a high-tech watch, this timepiece from Omega should be on top of your list.
