The resurrection of an 80 year old watch brand. Exactly eighty years after the original company was founded, Lebois & Co is resurrected. Continuing its mission to create aesthetic Luxury Swiss timepieces.
“Exactly 80 years after the original company was founded, Lebois & Co will be resurrected to live, and Eveline and I are very excited to be the ones to do this. We consider ourselves privilege to be a part of and to continue the tradition started back then (1934) by the Dodane family,” said Tom van Wijlick, who will have the pleasure of re-launching the company with his partner Eveline. Almost a year ago Tom and Eveline came across a photo of a beautiful vintage watch, a Lebois & Co Chronograph. They printed the picture of this watch and stuck it to their fridge. Being struck by the beauty of this timepiece, they started their research of this unknown brand. This eventually lead to the re-registration of the brand name and the re-launch of a forgotten watch brand: Lebois & Co.
The Avantgarde Date is the first model in the collection of the reborn Lebois & Co. Inspired by former Lebois & Co collections and using some of the aesthetics of that era, the Avantgarde Date is a modern 40mm timepiece in stainless steel and a Swiss mechanical automatic movement made by ETA. To celebrate rebirth of Lebois & Co the team created 3 Re-launch variations of the Avantgarde Date, each limited to 100 pieces. The first of the three variations features a white dial and blue alligator strap (ref 112.412) and will be available as a reward in their Kickstarter project.
Lebois & Co was founded in 1934 by French watch manufacturer Raymond Dodane. He belonged to the third generation of the famous Dodane family, who are best known for their watches using the family name on the dial. The company was sold to an Italian import company in 1947. The watches were still being produced in the Dodane factory and by some Swiss manufacturers, and sold (mainly to Italy).
In 1972 Lebois & Co ceased production and the brand disappeared from the watch industry landscape for a long time. Despite the disappearance of Lebois & Co the brand is still known today and popular with watch collectors all over the world. In 2012 a beautiful 1945 Lebois & Co Chronograph sold for over $ 6,000 at Christie’s Important Watches auction.
Now, in 2015, the Lebois & Co will once again been reborn. Thanks to Tom and Eveline, 80 years after the original company was founded, the brand will be given a new lease on life, thus continuing its mission to create aesthetic Luxury Swiss timepieces.
